I’ve decided that A Doll’s House is my favorite piece of literature that I’ve read in my sophomore year. From only reading the first act I got the whole feeling of the characters and really connected with the story. The characters are a lot like everyday people, for example Krogstad created a crime and is now trying to come back into society and not be looked upon in a bad way. Many people have created crimes in life and ask for forgiveness because they made a mistake. Many of the other characters play a role where they portray our society, which is because that’s how people actually are, even back in the 1800s when this was written.
In my last post I told you I’d keep you updated on the play. Therefore, Nora gets herself into a huge mess because as she tried to help a friend, but she’s being hold back by someone that can control her like a puppet, Krogstad. This is the man that she borrowed money from, who has the papers with Nora’s father’s forged signature on. I mentioned that Krogstad got into trouble with the law, which was that he forged a signature on documents. To warn her, Krogstad says, “You better tell your husband not to replace me, for you are the one to pay for it”. Was its wrong for Nora to borrow money and forged her almost dead father’s signature to help her ill husband become healthy again? Would you take a legal risk to help a loved one become better again? Most likely I certainly would!!!! And truthfully tell me, if you got in trouble with the law but your making your way back, would you blackmail someone else that made the same mistake as you????
Sam I LALALOVEEE your post. Everything you wrote is what I wrote, well kind of. I feel like Nora is such a strong character, but people step on her and treat her like dirt. Even her husband (whom I cant stand) I just wished I knew more about Krogstad. I guess I'll just have to read more then.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Olivia when she says that everyone just pushes Nora around. Like, if people knew that she was smarter than she claims to be, they'd treat her differently.
ReplyDeleteI believe that is was not wrong for Nora to barrow money and forge her father's signature. If I had the chance to help a loved one become better I would. I would be willing to risk everything.
ReplyDeleteI also feel this is the best thing we read all year. Yes I would make the same choice as Nora because had she not done what she had Torvald would have died.
ReplyDeleteLet me start by saying , Great Post ad that i believe what Nora did was in her husband's best interest. Let me also say, that I believe Krogstad is so smart and clever by blackmailing Nora, and making her coose between her family or her reptution. Krogstad is playing this situatuion very well although in the end, i belive it will come back to bite him.
ReplyDeleteOlivia - yes I absolutely agree with you, and I love ur post too! And yes just because some acts like an air head doesn't mean their not smart, I know this for a fact because I'm an airhead and I think I'm pretty smart considering , haha.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Nora was sneaky and went behind her husband's back and borrowed money from Krogstad, I understand why she did it. She did it to save her family. It's understandble in my opinion. Alsom I have to agree with Nate when he said it's clever by blackmailing Nora. He wants to get his reputation back.
